Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, Sofia
The St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Sofia, completed in 1912, was built in gratitude to the Russian soldiers who died in the war that liberated Bulgaria from Ottoman rule. Its gilded domes and cavernous Neo-Byzantine interior, adorned with mosaics and icons, make it the symbol of the Bulgarian capital.
